THE BIG BANG THEORY character Barry Kripke became an instant hit on the CBS sitcom thanks to his witty putdowns and a uniquely-sounding speech impediment. A 4-year-old child's speech should be intelligible overall, and a 7-year-old should be able to clearly produce most words consistent with community norms for their age. Unlike Bert, however, Barry is actually shown to be highly intelligent. Leslie was a character who struggled to fit the series cast of characters from the start so her eventual departure, while inevitable, was also much welcomed.
